AEW Revolution advertised a main event of MJF vs. Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship in a one-hour Iron Man Match. Though AEW tried to drum up a fake controversy of whether or not MJF could go an hour, he did just that in a fantastic and bloody main event where he retained the AEW World Championship. In total, five AEW championships were on the line.
Wardlow challenged Samoa Joe for the AEW TNT Championship; The Acclaimed attempted to regain the AEW Tag Team Championships in Fatal 4-Way action; Jamie Hayter, Ruby Soho and Saraya battled for the AEW Womenâs World Championship and The House of Black challenged The Elite for the AEW World Trios Championships.
AEW Dynamiteâs go-home broadcast ahead of AEW Revolution garnered just 833,000 viewers this week.

AEW Revolution 2023 Winners And Grades
Ricky Starks def. Chris Jericho
This very much felt like yet another Ricky Starks coming-out party, which at this points should just be considered par for the course because Starks has arrived.
Even though heâs a main eventer, Chris Jericho has carved out a niche in AEW as one of its best opening-match wrestlers.
Despite outside interference, Starks fended off his opps and defeated Chris Jericho clean. He should be on the short list of AEW wrestlers to dethrone MJF.
Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks Grade: A
Jungle Boy def. Christian Cage
Jungle Boy wore jeans and his jungle boots. Ever the smarmy heel, Christian wore a turtleneck tank top to a street fight.
This was yet another match where Christian jawed with Jungle Boy Jack Perryâs family.
The Burial Match featured both a casket and a burial plot. Is there two steps to winning this match?
Despite itâs over-the-top premise, this was a very good match and the crowd very much helped. Jungle Boy finally won by stuffing Cage into a casket, which promptly dropped into a grave.
Jungle Boy vs. Christian Cage Grade: A-
House of Black def. The Elite
This match literally wasted no time receiving âthis is awesomeâ chants.
Excalibur brought up the similarities between Kenny Omega and Buddy Mathews, dating back to when Mathews was stealing Omegaâs moves as Buddy Murphy.
The Eliteâs Trios Championship run being cut short tells me the Hangman Adam Page reunion canât be too far behind.
House of Black vs. The Elite Grade: A-
Jamie Hayter def. Saraya and Ruby Soho
It was wild seeing Britt Baker play the Rebel role in a Jamie Hayter pay-per-view match.
Based on chants in the building, fans were mostly split between Jamie Hayter and Ruby Soho.
In a very good spot, Britt Baker and Toni Storm took turns distracting the referee, which almost led to Soho winning the title with the Destination Unknown.
Jamie Hayter retained the AEW Womenâs World Championship with a rollup over Ruby Soho. In the post-match brawl, Soho dumped Saraya and Storm over the top rope and appeared to align with Hayter and Baker. She then attacked Baker and Hayter and aligned with Paige and Toni on Team WWE.
Hayter vs. Saraya and Soho Grade: B-
Hangman Adam Page def. Jon Moxley
Hangman Adam Page walked out to âGhostriders in the Skyâ by The Outlaws. As a sign of things to come, the lighting was red.
The match opened with fans backing Hangman Adam Page after Hangman started the action by pouncing on Moxley.
It took less than two minutes for Jon Moxley to start bleeding. One of the first things he did after bleeding was to introduce a fork and make Hangman Adam Page bleed right back.
Hangman Adam Page went face first into a chair covered in barbed wire, which was lodged in the corner.
Hangman Adam Page took forever to set up a spot where he wrapped himself in barbed wire and performed an Orihara moonsault. It was worth the wait.
AEW cut away to what appeared to be the only woman left watching, and she looked horrified.
Ingredients of this match included chairs, barbed wire, chair covered in barbed wire, a barbed wire board, chains and bricks.
Poor Hangman overshot the table, but it inadvertently told an even better story of Moxley giving Hangman a concussion and going headfirst through a barbed wire board.
Interestingly enough, Moxley hit Hangman Adam Page with a curb stomp on a brick. This led to simmering chants of Rollinsâ theme music throughout the crowd.
The finish of this match came Hangman Adam Page forced Jon Moxley to tap out with a chain-link lynching in a Texas Death Match. Unbelievable.
Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Adam Page Grade: A-
Wardlow def. Samoa Joe
Wardlow did not receive the superstar reactions he was getting in 2022. Though the crowd was fatigued from the match before, this has been the case with Wardlow since his legs were cut out from under him during the MJF Double or Nothing drama.
Wardlow vs. Samoa Joe were victims of the heated death match before them. The crowd was very quiet save for a screaming woman.
Will Hobbs received the biggest pop of this match. When he was shown on camera, however, he looked just as bored with this match with the rest of the Chase Center.
The second half of this match was salvaged as both Joe and Wardlow worked hard and the crowd slowly came around.
Wardlow won with a rear-naked choke submission while screaming âdie!â Fans seemed more shocked than anything.
The announce team continued to put over Will Hobbs by saying Warldowâs TNT Title reign could be one of the shortest reigns of all time.
Wardlow vs. Samoa Joe Grade: B-
The Gunn Club def. The Acclaimed, Triple J, Orange Cassidy and Danhausen
The Gunn Club continued their theme of 90âs cosplaying by walking out with entrance gear similar to Shawn Michaels.
Danhausen and Orange Cassidy were every bit as entertaining in the ring as they are on paper.
One of many highlights during this match came when fans broke into a chant of âSan Fran Scissor.â
Fans erupted for a faceoff between Danhausen and Satnam Singh like it was Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant. Then they popped even louder for a Fame Asser on Singh, where Billy Gunn essentially sat on Singhâs head.
Aubrey Edwards was uncharacteristically booed after she stopped Max Caster from hitting Jeff Jarrett with a guitar.
The match went to the finish immediately after Austin Gunn was cursed, but The Gunns won anyway. It completely buried the curse.
AEW Tag Title Fatal 4-Way Grade: B
MJF def. Bryan Danielson
MJF received a great entrance where a violin choir played his theme music. He walked out in a devilâs mask.
There were audible boos for Bryan Danielson that even seemed to catch Danielson off guard.
MJF was absolutely shredded when he revealed his physique. MJF dropped the belt, while taking it off, but he immediately improvised and began barking at the crowd while they chanted âyou fâked up.â
MJF was tremendous as a heel with his slow pacing and intermittent antagonizing of the crowd.
The announcers continued to analyze MJFâs motivation for being such a heel and Taz lashed out at them for trying to be âpsychiatrists on a wrestling show.â
Bryan Danielson won the first fall with a Busaiku Knee 25 minutes into the match.
MJF low-blowed Bryan Danielson and was disqualified for it even though no bell rang. MJF promptly scored back-to-back pinfall wins. A much-needed scoreboard was displayed on the screen after.
At least 20 seconds came off the clock for Bryce Remsburg to count to nine.
MJF elicited a loud gasps after screaming at Danielson âyou [expletive] suck!â As MJF went on his tirade, Taz played the role of pro wrestling psychiatrist by breaking down MJFâs insecurities.
MJF scored a third pinfall with a second-rope piledriver, and Danielson tied things up with an STF.
By the 12-minute mark, this became the second match of the night with double juice. MJF bled like Flair in the â80s.
AEW announcers praised this wrestling match, which was excellent, but the problem is the storyline did not captivate fans to get here. With a better story, this could have been an iconic match. Instead, I feel like itâll only be remembered as another great one, which happens every week in pro wrestling.
MJF tapped out right after the bell ring and the match was ruled a draw. Tony Schiavone then relayed a message to Justin Roberts that this match will continue under Sudden Death rules. MJF scored the final pinfall when Bryan Danielson tapped out to the LeBell Lock.
