Topline
The gunman who opened fire at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas campus on Wednesdayâkilling three faculty members and wounding oneâmaintained a list of targets and sent letters to the university containing an unknown substance, police said on Thursday.
Key Facts
In a press conference, Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed the identity of the shooter as Anthony Polito, a 67-year-old business management professor who had applied for jobs at several colleges and universities in the area, but was rejected each time.
Law enforcement, however, is still trying to establish an exact motive for the shooting.
Polito, who was killed by police, kept a list of targets at UNLV, although no one on the list âbecame a victim,â McMahill said.
Polito also mailed 22 letters to university faculty membersâat least one of which contained an unknown white power substanceâpolice added.
Law enforcement searched Politoâs apartment after the incident and found an eviction notice on the doorâprompting authorities to believe he was struggling financiallyâand a document inside that was similar to a âlast will and testament.â
