The latest episode of Dragula has sparked a discussion online amongst fans about the constant fighting between the contestants and their fellow competitor, Jay Kay.
The episode begins on the heels of part one of last weekâs annual Drag Monsters of Rock Floor show, with the Drag artists being told to return to the lab to await instructions for the next part of the Rock Floor Show.
Despite the competitors getting along at the start of the episode, with each contestant congratulating Fantasia Royale Gaga on her much-deserved win in the first part of the challenge, Fantasia asked Jay Kay and Cynthia Doll, who are partnered together for this challenge, if they were going to get along after tension arose between the two last week.
Just to quickly recap, Jay Kay was exterminated from the competition in the first episode, but they were given a second chance and managed to stay afloat.
âI do have conversations that Iâm gonna have with him later on,â Cynthia said. To which someone else asked, âWell, what about Jay and Ork?â
This is not the first time that chaos has erupted between two competitors this season, particularly between Jay Kay and another competitor. I mentioned before that Jay was exterminated earlier in the season, but they had been given a second chance. For additional context, Orkgotik, who is also on the same team as Jay and Cynthia, dumped her drink on Jay while they disagreed with each earlier in the season.
Jay laughed off the question by saying it was them versus everybody, to which Cynthia said âWell, no, you literally almost disrespect everybody here. So why are youâwhy donât you just own up to it?â
After this, Cynthia revealed that she was hurt by Jay giving her the finger in the middle of her lip sync while staring right at her.
âRespectfully,â Jay said, âIf being flipped off moved you this much to speak on it, maybe youâre not that much of a monster.â The contestants gasped, and so did I.
Eventually, Throb Zombie, the final member of their team, broke the argument up and asked that the team instead focus on working together instead of arguing.
âHonestly, it pisses me off too,â they said, âbut if Iâm in the bottom because yâall canât get your [stuff] together, Iâm gonna lose my mind.â
Many fans on social media have voiced their feelings regarding the heated arguments and fights involving Jay and their fellow drag artists. While Cynthia was valid in being upset about receiving the finger, fans have pointed out that Jay was told to get over it when Ork poured a drink on them during their disagreement. Some fans feel as though itâs just good reality TV, and that the fighting only adds to the quality of the episodes, while others feel like the treatment Jay is receiving is borderline micro-aggressive.
During part one of the episode, which aired last week, Koco Caine, a drag performer known for their appearance on the first season of Dragula and as the runner-up for Dragula Titans, allowed Black fans of the show to voice their feelings in a safe space under a post she made on the X social media app.
âBlack viewers how yâall feel,â Caine posted. âThis is a space for black people to share how they felt about the episode,â she continued. âDonât come in here expecting anyone to explain to you what happened or divert attention to anything other than what this space is for.â
Despite everything, Jay and Cynthiaâs team managed to place high in the episode, with their team leader, Ork, managing to snag the win for the episode. Dragula continues to keep its fans at the edge of their seats between the challenges and the drama between its contestants. While everyone might have their own opinions, Dragula has started a conversation amongst its fans that will only broaden as the show continues.
