Donald Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social on Monday night to complain about the $200,000 bond thatâs been negotiated for his release after he surrenders in Georgia later this week over his alleged plot to overturn the 2020 election. And while it was completely expected that the former president would complain about needing to post bond, he also ventured into truly bizarre territory, explaining a hypothetical scenario where he would apparently flee to Russia.
âThe failed District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta), Fani Willis, insisted on a $200,000 Bond from me,â Trump wrote Monday night.
Again, thatâs not out of the ordinary. But then the Truth Social post took a very weird turn.
âI assume, therefore, that she thought I was a âflightâ risk – Iâd fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again,â Trump continued.
Trump has repeatedly denied that his 2016 presidential campaign was engaging in anything untoward with Russia, though the Mueller Report found numerous contacts with Russian officials.
Trump continued on Truth Social with his hypothetical flight from justice, even conjuring a mental image of his plane.
âWould I be able to take my very âunderstatedâ airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, Iâd be much better off flying commercial – Iâm sure nobody would recognize me!â Trump continued on Monday.
Why is Trump imagining such a scenario? Your guess is as good as mine. But the indictments Trump is currently staring downâand the prospect of prison timeâis clearly taking a toll on the 45th president.
Trumpâs daily posts on Truth Social has become seemingly more desperate in recent months, as he faces charges in four cases. The latest indictment against Trump is a RICO case in Georgia brought by prosecutors who allege he tried to overturn the 2020 election through a number of different ways.
There are even audio tapes of Trump trying to pressure Georgia election officials to âfindâ enough votes that would allow him to declare victory in the case. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, once a Trump ally, recently acknowledged Trump lost the election and encouraged his party to stop living in the past.
Trump will surrender in Georgia on Thursday, the same day as the Republican primary debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which Trump will not be attending. Notably, news of Trumpâs surrender first became public when Trump himself announced it on Truth Social, and itâs been widely reported that heâll get a mugshot taken. While Truth Social has struggled to gain a critical mass of users since it was first launched by Trump in 2022, itâs become quite a megaphone for a man who was banned from sites like Twitter and Facebook following the insurrection on January 6, 2021.
âCan you believe it? Iâll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis, who is overseeing one of the greatest Murder and Violent Crime DISASTERS in American History,â Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday.
âIn my case, the trip to Atlanta is not for âMurder,â but for making a PERFECT PHONE CALL! She campaigned, and is continuing to campaign, and raise money on, this WITCH HUNT. This is in strict coordination with Crooked Joe Bidenâs DOJ. It is all about ELECTION INTERFERENCE!â Trump continued.
Both Twitter and Facebook have invited Trump back to their platforms, but Trump seems content staying with his own network. Why? It probably has something to do with the fact that Twitter and Facebook banned him after he tried to overthrow the government. And Trump isnât going to let anyone turn off his microphone this time. Letâs just hope he doesnât use the platform to instigate violence. Because given the way heâs talkingâwhich can best be described as apocalypticâTrump is clearly capable of anything right now.
