Sunday is here again, and with it a very good excuse to curl up with a good book or flee to the couch for some Netflix or video games. I thought I’d open today’s Wordle post with some recommendations!
For shows, I just finished watching Slow Horses on Apple TV+ starring Gary Oldman as washed out MI5 spy Jackson Lamb. There are currently two seasons and my only complaint is that neither one is long enough. The show is excellent but it could afford to slow down a bit and give us 8-10 episodes per case.
For fantasy and D&D fans, I cannot recommend The Legend Of Vox Machina enough. It’s on Amazon Prime Video and Season 2 just finished airing a couple weeks ago. This is one of the best fantasy shows on TV. Don’t let the fact that it’s animated fool you. It’s very much a show for adults and teenagers. I often complain about how boring big AAA blockbuster movie action scenes are these days. One of my biggest gripes with Ant-Man 3 was just how lousy the action was. Well, Vox Machina has some of the most creative fight sequences out there—and that’s on top of great characters, tons of humor and loads of imaginative storytelling.
As for video games, check out this crazy Call Of Duty clone Frontlines—made entirely in Roblox! It’s crazy!
Alright, on to today’s Wordle!
How To Solve Today’s Wordle
The Hint: If your friends or romantic partners are this way, you should find new ones.
The Clue: This Wordle contains an 8-point Scrabble letter.
The Answer (Spoilers):

.
I guessed magic because I was thinking about Hogwarts Legacy and how I wish they’d used a turn-based combat system rather than the somewhat flat action combat system. Then again, I think that game would be better as a Persona JRPG clone than what we got. I was happy to get both ‘I’ and ‘C’ in green boxes, but I didn’t know just how good the guess really was until I checked Wordle Bot afterwards and saw that only 18 guesses remained!
From here, store brought me down to just four, giving me a ‘T’ and an ‘O’ in yellow. Unfortunately, I wasn’t sure where they should go, with two options for both letters remaining. I picked the wrong word—optic—though at least it narrowed the field to just one remaining answer: toxic.
Once again, I tied Wordle Bot and got this in four guesses, leaving me with a total of zero points. I’m gonna give myself a huzzah! anyways, because at least I’m not in the red.
A little bonus here. My brother and I went to a Shins concert last year and the opening band, Joseph—a trio of sisters—performed a cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” that was pretty rad. Much more my style than Britney’s OG version. Check it out:
I asked ChatGPT to elaborate on the etymology of ‘toxic’ and this is what he told me:
The word “toxic” comes from the Latin word “toxicus,” which means “poisoned” or “venomous.” This Latin word is derived from the Greek word “toxikon pharmakon,” which refers to a poison used on arrows.
In ancient times, warriors would coat their arrowheads with poison, which would make them deadly and toxic to their enemies. Over time, the word “toxic” came to be used more generally to refer to anything that is poisonous, harmful, or dangerous to living organisms.
Today, the word “toxic” is commonly used to describe substances, chemicals, or behaviors that can cause harm or have negative effects on humans or other living beings. It can also be used metaphorically to describe relationships or situations that are unhealthy or damaging.
Toxicus venomous! Sounds like a Harry Potter spell! Or curse, rather.
Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!
I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course).
Here are the rules:
- 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
- 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
- 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
- 1 point for beating Erik
- 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
- -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
- -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
- -3 points for losing.
- -1 point for losing to Erik
Your best game would be a hole in 1 (3 points) and beating me (1 point) for 4 total. Your worst would be failing to guess the correct answer (-3 points) and losing to me (-1) point for a -4 total. These are outlier scores, however. Usually my worst is a -2 and my best a +2.
Have a lovely day, my dearest Wordlers!
